RNLI - IB-1 Inshore Lifeboat Class
The IB-1 Inshore lifeboat is specifically designed for close inshore work where bigger, deeper draught boats cannot manoeuvre. It has an endurance period of 3 hours and a top speed of 25 knots. In the event of a capsize, the boat can be righted manually by the crew.
The IB1 replaces the previous D-Class and has a higher top speed at 25 knots, better communications and navigation equipment with a GPS plotter/e-chart system, and a rigid floor that improves handling and the ride for the crew. The IB1 class has been operational since mid 2003 and has been a success ever since.
