Launched to assist a 17ft motor boat (1 POB) which had been blown ashore on Roker beach after suffering gearbox failure. The vessel was towed to safety and onto its moorings at Sunderland Marina.

Both lifeboats diverted from PR launch during Lifeboat day to assist a man suffering major chest pains on Roker Pier. RNLI Lifeguards assisted the Paramedics to enter the pier while the Lifeboat Crew treated the man. Once stabilised, he was taken to Hospital by Ambulance.

Launched to assist with the search for a man who had threatened to commit suicide at Marsden. A full coastline search was carried out with Coastguards, Police, & VLB. After approx. 90 minutes the search was terminated with no result.

Launched after reports of a female sitting on the wrong side of safety railings on Queen Alexandra Bridge. After about 20 mins the Police managed to talk the woman into allowing the Fire Brigade assisting her back over the railings to safety.

Launched after reports of a family (2 adults + 4 children) and their dog being cut off by the tide at Ryhope. The family and the dog were transferred from the beach to the A85 by the IB-1. Once they were all onboard the A85, they were then taken to Sunderland Marina. NEWS IMAGE

Launched after reports of a man standing on the wrong side of safety railings on Wearmouth Bridge. After about 20 mins the Police managed to talk the man into climbing back over the railings to safety.

Launched after '999' call reporting a vessel suffering engine failure at South Hylton. No vessel was found, and during the search it was confirmed that a vessel matching the description had been recovered at South Hylton slipway.

Diverted from Air Show patrol exercise to assist the crew of a 15ft speedboat which was suffering engine problems. After a few minutes the crew managed to get there engine restarted and return to shore unaided.

Diverted from exercise to assist the crew (4 POB) of a 16ft speedboat which had suffered electrical failure and was being blown offshore by strong winds. The lifeboat took the vessel in tow and returned it to S/land harbour where it was picked up by the ILB and taken to South Hylton slipway.

Launched after 999 call reporting children cut off by the tide at the Cat & Dog steps at Roker. On arrival it was discovered that the children were playing on the rocks and not in any difficulty.

Launched to standby 400m off shore opposite Seaham Hall car park, after Police received a '999' call from a man stating that he was going to drive his car over the cliff. After approx. 2.5hrs the Police managed to talk the man into driving away from the cliff edge to safety.

Three men (early 20's) rescued from sea near Cliffe Park, Seaburn. All three were rescued by friends and members of the public using life-rings (PRE). Once on the promenade, they were given first aid by off duty RNLI Lifeguards before being taken to Hospital by RAF Helicopter and land ambulance. Once it was confirmed that all of the casualties were out of the water the ILB was stood down. NEWS NEWS

Two men (aged 23/24) rescued from North Sea in joint rescue by T/mouth & S/land RNLI Lifeboats. The two men were found hanging onto their capsized canoe 100m off Camels Island.
